Diane Gage
Diane Gage is a poet and artist who likes to combine the two in artist’s books, to collaborate with other artists and to create occasional multimedia projects that involve members of the community.
One such project, called Mom’s Nuke, arose from a visit to a nuclear missile site on a corner of maternal family land in North Dakota. It incorporated processes that invited participants through various art and verbal activities to explore their personal connections to larger communal issues. In this case those issues included nuclear power, weapons and waste, offering a way for each participant to reflect through art on relation to self and others as a citizen of this country. In the context of Public Address, Gage has collaborated on specific projects with Anne Mudge, Doris Bittar and Bhavna Mehta. Gage earned a PhD in English Language and Literature from Arizona State University in 1978 and has worked as a teacher, writer and editor. She also studied Expressive Arts at the Expressive Arts Institute in San Diego and the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. In that capacity she has worked with homeless children and veterans. |
