Bhavna Mehta
Bhavna Mehta works with paper – cutting and embroidering it to tell visual stories that combine portraiture, botanical motifs, creatures and our modern surroundings.
Mehta has exhibited widely in San Diego and Southern California. In 2015 she was awarded the Creative Catalyst grant from The San Diego Foundation in partnership with the Oceanside Museum of Art, which led her to create her first installation using stories from the community. She collaborated with Robin Brailsford and Wick Alexander on the Long Beach Transit Mall public art project, using paper as a design medium to create the images that were transformed into Lithomosaics. She has engineering degrees from both India and US and worked as a software engineer for many years before turning to art. She teaches paper cutting and sculpture around San Diego County and at Penland School of Craft. |
